Art For the People

Art is a way of expressing something of our own: an idea, a point of view, a particular experience or notion. Such art comes to a full purpose when shared and experienced by others and confronts them, making me say that the spectator is crucial for the existence of art (in its full potencial).









Playing the spectator an important role in the existence of art, it's necessary that he/she understands the content of art, its purpose and what it has to offer, and that information needs to be acessible, racionaly achievable. An artist can only expect the observer to "see" what the piece of art reveals in its shapes and their references, because any purpose that relies on information exterior to the piece (for example, trivia about the author) may not be achievable by the common individual. In my point of view, if the spectator isn't able to find (by ways of racional analysis) the settled meaning of a work of art, it should be considered a failure, for it couldn't pass the settled meaning through its shapes... Well, if the purpose of some artworks were only aesthetical, and the spectator found them interesting, then they wouldn't be a failure, because the meaning would be the shapes themself.

In the process of creating art, an artist needs to garantee that all the information that he/she wants people to interpret is inserted in the shapes, colors, material and (nature) references of the artwork, and that that information has to be logically achievable by them. This opinion excludes abstract or conceptual art, it just explains what to be expected from the observer when analysing any kind of art.

For last and shortly, the most important thing (for me) about art is the aesthetic. An artist in pursuit of expressing any ideia or point of view should never forget that the aesthetic is the principal aspect when it comes to captivate a individual. Art should be visually appealing, holding the spectator's attention for the shapes, combination of colors, directions, size, composition... and also the skills of the artist, capable of expressing and producing such delight!
